गौतम बुद्धको जन्मस्थल तथा युनेस्को विश्व सम्पदा सूचीमा सूचीकृत लुम्बिनीले वार्षिक १५ लाखभन्दा बढी पर्यटक भित्र्याए पनि अपेक्षित आर्थिक लाभ लिन सकेको छैन। विशेषगरी भारतबाट मायादेवी मन्दिर दर्शन गर्न आउने धार्मिक पर्यटकहरू केही घण्टामै फर्किने गरेका कारण स्थानीय अर्थतन्त्रमा न्यून योगदान पुगेको छ। सरोकारवालाहरूले लुम्बिनीलाई केवल एउटा 'स्टपओभर' को रूपमा मात्र नभई लामो समय बस्ने गरी मुख्य पर्यटकीय गन्तव्यका रूपमा विकास गर्नुपर्नेमा जोड दिएका छन्।
