नेपाली कांग्रेससँग आबद्ध विद्यार्थी संगठन नेपाल विद्यार्थी संघ (एनएसयू) का पूर्व नेताहरूले पार्टीको जारी नेतृत्व प्रतिस्पर्धामा प्रभुत्व जमाएका छन्। एनएसयूका पूर्व महामन्त्री तथा उपाध्यक्ष गगन कुमार थापा पार्टीको अध्यक्षका रूपमा नेतृत्व गर्ने तयारीमा छन् भने अन्य पूर्व एनएसयू अध्यक्षहरू महत्वपूर्ण पदका लागि प्रतिस्पर्धा गरिरहेका छन्। ५६ वर्षको इतिहासमा एनएसयूले निर्वाचित र तदर्थ गरी २१ जना अध्यक्ष पाएको छ, जसले भावी कांग्रेस नेताहरूको तालिमस्थलका रूपमा यसको भूमिका देखाउँछ।
