आर्थिक मन्दी र अन्य चुनौतीका कारण गत आर्थिक वर्ष २०८२/८३ मा मधेश प्रदेशमा कुल १,९३८ उद्योग तथा व्यवसायहरू बन्द भएका छन्। उद्योग, वाणिज्य तथा पर्यटन मन्त्रालयका अनुसार यस अवधिमा ८२१ उद्योग र १,११७ व्यवसायहरूको दर्ता खारेज गरिएको छ। व्यवसायहरू बन्द हुने क्रमका बीच ५,०६८ नयाँ उद्योगहरू दर्ता भएका छन्, जसमा पर्सा जिल्लामा सबैभन्दा बढी नयाँ दर्ता देखिएको छ। मन्त्रालयका अनुसार धनुषा, बारा र सर्लाही लगायतका जिल्लाहरूमा पनि नयाँ उद्योग दर्ता हुने क्रम जारी रहेको छ।
